The intersection of curves and straight lines in the brightly colored volumes creates a playful atmosphere at this school in the city of Haikou, located north of Hainan Island. Situate on a sloping site, the new construction seeks, through its forms, to stimulate imagination, creativity, and communication.

Under a ‘floating’ concrete roof, cantilevered volumes and double-height columns are inserted into a dynamic spatial sequence of semi-exterior spaces appropriate to the local tropical climate. The bridges and ramps at different heights are entwined with the solid suspended volumes. The blue cube and the red cylindrical block correspond to the multipurpose event hall and exhibition room, respectively. In a interplay of light and shadows, the interior and exterior spaces are woven together forming a labyrinthine space.
