Since its creation in 2007, the Swiss Architectural Award of the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio has made a niche for itself among the profession’s top prizes by biennially highlighting architects on the rise who have at least three major projects to their name that show strong sensitivity to landscape, ecology, and the discipline’s ethical and aesthetic challenges. The sixth award has gone to Elisa Valero, a University of Granada professor among whose works the jury chaired by Mario Botta has selected the extension of a school in Cerillo de Macarena, the experimental homes in Granada, and the church at Playa Granada. As awardee, Valero succeeds Solano Benítez, Francis Kéré, Studio Mumbai, José María Sánchez García, and Junya Ishigami.
