In the context of its internationalization process the Norwegian firm Snøhetta recently won the competition for a theater building in Xingtai, one of China’s oldest but also fastest growing cities. The project is organized around a large reflective pool, in evocation of the tradition of local wells, and proposes a facade clad in pieces of ceramic, a clear reference to the region’s rich porcelain manufacturing history. The Xingtai Grand Theater is part of a new masterplan for Hebei province.
