Sergio García Sánchez
Picture Stories
Sergio García (Guadix, Spain, 1967) is one of the most prominent comic book artists in Europe, and also a professor in the field at the universities of Granada – his alma mater – and of Angoulême. Through a selection of his most representative works we can understand the three concepts that are the backbone of his research: using multilinear narration to avoid the grid layout of the page and favor a more dynamic and active reading; to set aside the book format and propose alternatives such as the poster, which would be one single folded drawing offering a full account; and to compose a story within a figure, what he calls ‘story containers’, which is what he did for his latest cover for The New Yorker.
