Manhattan Transfer

01/04/2023

Born in Montevideo and raised in Buenos Aires, Rafael Viñoly was a New Yorker at heart, because the Big Apple is where he made it to international stardom as an architect. There, sadly, he ended his days on 2 March, at only 78 years of age. After a lucrative first stage in Argentina accompanied by the five partners with whom he formed what would go on to become one of the largest firms in Latin America, his solo practice in Lower Manhattan produced the iconic works that the name Viñoly is best known for, including the extensive Cleveland Museum of Art expansion, the colossal Tokyo International Forum, and the very slender residential and mixed-use tower located at 432 Park Avenue, at the corner of East 57th Street. More than a personal seal, these feats endeavored to address different needs with the latest technology available.
