After a long illness, Luis Maldonado Ramos passed away in Cádiz on 21 August. Chair Professor of Architectural Construction and Technology at Madrid Polytechnic (UPM), Maldonado was a leader in the field of architectural restoration and rehabilitation, and a staunch defender of traditional architecture, especially of building with earth, an area that he was instrumental in reviving and systematizing. Attesting to this are numerous articles and books that he published, among them De Arquitectura y Arqueología (1998) and Diccionario tradicional de construcción con tierra (2002). For many years he taught at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), serving as its director from 2008 to 2017, the decade of the crisis.
