Manuel Bouzas Barcala, Princesa de Girona Foundation Award

Compared with musicians or painters, who can show their talent from a tender age, architects are altricial creatures that need time to mature before producing their first fruits. But, Manuel Bouzas is impressively precocious: barely in this thirties, this native of Pontevedra juggles teaching at Cornell with a multidisciplinary practice that has led him along the path, among others, of designing temporary installations in cities like Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, or Rome, as well as curating – in collaboration with Roi Salgueiro – Spain’s participation in the next Venice Biennale. The list of accolades he has reaped is admirable, including the Renzo Piano World Tour Award and the COAM’s Emerging prize, and the latest is the Princess of Girona, which recognizes his work beyond the actual bounds of architecture...
