Recent research has not just confirmed the increasingly heterogeneous quality of the way we live and the dwellings we live in, but also a growing gulf between everyday reality, what is offered on the market and the ideologies of advertising. Qualities of domestic life that are fixed and described in programmes for residential buildings and competitions are almost all lacking in any plausible justification, and certainly do not have any scientific basis.
