For the first time in an exhibition devoted to the oeuvre of Juan Muñoz (1953-2001), there will be few of the enigmatic dummies of people that reawakened interest in the human figure at a moment in time when sculpture seemed to have practically done away with it altogether. On view through this coming 16 October at the Botín Centre in the city of Santander are his drawings, a constant in his artistic activity where the very same obsessions that come to the fore in his leaden three-dimensional creations can be perceived: desires ingrained in his ‘storytelling,’ theatrical stratagems, and the disturbing scenes that filled the imagination of the master born in Madrid who died at only 48.
