Favorable climates

01/12/2022

In his adopted city, Seville, the architect Jaime López de Asiaín passed away on 12 September. He was born in Madrid but the setting of his influential teachings was the Andalusian capital, whose school he helped to get going, and stayed ever connected to but for a stint as visiting professor at Berkeley and another as director of the architecture school of Las Palmas. This docent activity did not in any way slow down a busy practice which produced what is now the Museo del Traje in Madrid’s university campus, which covers the history of Spanish clothing, winner of the 1969 National Architecture Award. Another achievement of his was the microclimate of Expo 92, a pioneer project that harnessed his research on bioclimate construction, his great passion, to alleviate heat within the Cartuja grounds during the summer of that event.
