The firm led by the British architect Norman Foster has been selected to design Guangming Hub, a high-density urban development linked to the railway that runs through Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Following the model known as TOD (transit-oriented development), this masterplan envisions a metropolitan center that covers a walkable distance around an already existing train station, an integrated node along the high-speed line with direct connections to three metro lines, ensuring citizens quick commutes to and from the outskirts.
The design applies the most cutting-edge technological tools to make the city function intelligently, ensuring optimal interaction between the built mass and the public space around, as well as a mix of uses and fluid circulation. The sinuous topography and exuberant vegetation of the location are harnessed to prioritize pedestrians by giving them a dynamic experience full of life.
