In this lecture given by Luis Fernández-Galiano at the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, the theme is the Bilbao branch of the Guggenheim Museum, which opened in 1997. Grand in scale and clad in titanium, this work of Frank Gehry had been seen as a spectacular icon of the transformation of the Basque industrial city where it stands. A highlight of its architecture are the geometrical forms designed with the aeronautics industry’s CATIA software. This building is a fundamental milestone in the trajectory of its author, who, coming from deconstructivism, incorporated sculptural volumes and lines as the main structure.
