Peru experienced a period of economic prosperity starting around the year 2000, thanks above all to the boom in construction and the strong growth of the mining industry, which brought about a drastic transformation across the country, reaching both cities and landscapes. The photographer Edi Hirose (Lima, 1975) decided to document those changes with his camera, and to furthermore reflect the impact of that exacerbated expansion on Peruvian society. Collected over the course of the past twenty years, Hirose’s photographs show the harshness of the artificial landscapes created by human activity and express the difficult balance between economic growth, environment, and social well-being...
