Chipperfield in New York

Subtle Lattice

31/12/2019

A proposal by the British architect David Chipperfield has won for him the competition to erect a high-rise replacing a building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street in New York City, a site that has been the US headquarters of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Rolex since the 1970s. Rising 25 floors and containing 15,329 square meters, the tower will house offices and a store at street level, is designed with obtainment of LEED Platinum certification in mind, and will be clad in those definitely elegant albeit rather predictable lattices that are a signature of Chipperfield’s practice.
