Nestling in the heart of the Pyyenees National Park, the project is a reconstruction of the Barroude mountain refuge that fire destroyed ten years ago. The building will provide a visitor reception center, support facilities for park staff, and accommodations for hikers on the Haute Route des Pyrénées.
Presenting a large planted roof, it makes the most of the existing topography, forming two levels without having to carry out major earthworks. Reducing the concrete foundations, the volume rises on a base of local stone and is built with prefabricated elements made of recycled wood and aluminum, evoking shapes of the surrounding landscape. Completion of construction is envisioned for 2027.
