In 2016 the architecture studio elii won the competition to transform a building of the Save the Children Foundation – located in the San Diego quarter of Vallecas, in Madrid – into a childcare center. The proposal is based on the addition of a new
Divided into an L-shaped private band and a main zone, the dwelling presents two levels connected by a furniture-staircase that delimits the areas and makes it possible to make the most of the avilable space.
Seeking to optimize light, the program is organized in several bands of services that make it possible to free up an interior space which is open, flexible, and equipped with mobile panels and ‘secret traps’.
With its enclosure of recycled wood and polycarbonate panels, the building is formed by industrialized modules organized around an inner garden courtyard.
