Almost thirty years ago MVRDV leaped to fame thanks, among other things, to its uninhibited way of crystallizing the diagrams of uses in constructions of a public nature. After all this time it seems that the formula still works, as we can see in the Dutch studio’s latest work, the mixed-use development Werk 12, located on a former industrial site close to Munich’s East Station. Its transparent glass facades – decorated with 5-meter-tall bold letters spelling expressions found in German comics – treat passers-by to a view of the building’s complex and attractive offer of restaurants, bars, offices, and a gym with a pool.
