Homebuilding: Open-Source App

30/09/2019

There is no doubt whatsoever that robotization and artificial intelligence are proof of great technological progress, but as sociologists and economists keep warning us, they are also a serious threat to the survival of many jobs. Architects, for the time being, do not seem to be an endangered species; their complex and rigorous training, so far, cannot be replaced by machines in one go. But already we are seeing signs of intimidation, such as the London Mayor’s Office launching PRISM, an open-source, web-based, free application for developers to use in designing and constructing industrialized housing developments. Delivered by the engineering and architecture firm of Bryden Wood, the app is the first of its kind for modular residential design to be sponsored and made available by a public organism.
