After becoming one of the most prominent graffiti artists in Spain in the 1980s, SpY started exploring different forms of communication, giving shape to his distinctive style. His work involves the playful appropriation and transformation of urban elements. Through his interventions, these elements acquire a new meaning, prompting passers-by to comment and reflect on what they are seeing, and favoring, in the artist’s words, “an enlightened conscience.” His aesthetic world is built upon a careful attention to context, composing a unique oeuvre that includes stunning light art installations, glowing crescent moons suspended in the sky, and giant luminous spheres.
