Norman Foster draws up plans to transform battered Kharkiv into ‘city of the future’

The renowned British architect wants to contribute to the Ukrainian city's reconstruction and is focused on developing a master blueprint.

The British architect Lord Foster is drawing up plans for the “high-tech” post-war revival of Ukraine’s second city as much of it has been reduced to rubble by Russian shelling.

Lord Foster has promised to help transform a “city of the future” Kharkiv, close to the border with Russia, after it was blitzed by Moscow’s bombardment.

“The first step is to make a master plan of the city linked to the region, to combine the most beloved and revered heritage of the past with the most desirable and greenest elements of infrastructure and buildings - in other words, to create the city of the future now and plan your life for decades to come,” Lord Foster wrote in a submission to Ihor Terekhov, Kharkiv’s mayor...
