New museum of Ethnography, Budapest
Set to join Sou Fujimoto’s House of Hungarian Music and SANAA’s National Gallery and Ludwig Museum within the future Liget cultural complex outside Budapest is the city’s new ethnographic museum, following a design by Napur Architect. The local firm – headed by István Ferencz, Marcel Ferencz, and György Détári – was selected from a shortlist that included Bernard Tschumi Architects, Coop Himmelb(l)au, Dominique Perrault Architecture, MVRDV, OMA, and Zaha Hadid Architects, besides Sauerbruch Hutton and BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group, winners of the second and third prizes. The winning entry presents a sloping green roof conceived as a public space. The first building ever to be expressly designed for the 144-year-old institution is to open in 2019. NAPUR architect
