On view until 12 March at the art gallery ASPA Contemporary in Madrid are oil paintings selected from the most recent pictorial period of the architect Javier Sánchez Bellver (Madrid, 1951). This is his second solo exhibition, after one at the Ateneo, and shows contemporary still lifes resulting from a methodical work process. His concise figures inquire into the atmosphere in fruits, vegetables, and everyday objects. Luis Fernández-Galiano defines Javier Sánchez Bellver’s oeuvre in the prologue of the catalog, La vida quieta.
Two issues of AV have appeared in his canvases: number 5, ‘Madrid Capital’, in Fragmento de biblioteca, a part of which was reproduced on the cover of Arquitectura Viva 18, ‘Tanta teoría’; and 157-158, ‘Herzog & de Meuron (2005-2013)’, in Repasando, which illustrates the catalog front.
