The American artist James Turrell, known for his experiments with light, has designed bottles for the French glassmaker Lalique's Range Rider and Purple Sage scents. Conceived to diffuse and diffract light, the shapes of the bottles draw inspiration from Asian stupas, constructions harboring the remains of Buddhist monks, and also from Egyptian pyramids. For Lalique, a major challenge was obtaining crystal of a uniform thickness, to ensure correct density of color and homogeneity. Turrell also worked with Lalique in the creation of the fragrances as well as in the design of wooden boxes for the bottles.
