On view from 14 July to 15 October 2023 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London is an exhibition on the architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron (H&dM), founded in Basel in 1978. Curated by Vicky Richardson in close collaboration with H&deM, the show is organized in a sequence of three spaces that explore the Swiss practice's ideas and creative processes. The first room contains 400 objects – including models, prints*, photographs, and film clips – related to several of the studio's works, plus six large photographs of buildings taken by Thomas Ruff and three by Andreas Gursky. Through augmented reality visitors can delve into the projects, which come to life in the exhibition through digital 3D models and animation. The second room is a cinema screening a new work by the filmmaking duo Bêka & Lemoine that shows everyday life at the H&dM-designed REHAB clinic in Basel. The last room is devoted to curative architecture and focuses on a single project, currently under construction, Kinderspital Zürich (Switzerland).
