Female creators have been relegated to the second row of history, and in its firm endeavor to give them center stage, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid presents the first retrospective on the German Gabriele Münter ever to be put together in Spain. She was one of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter, the group that seems to be associated exclusively with Wassily Kandinsky – her life partner – and Franz Marc. A photography dilettante in her beginnings, as a painter she knew how to harness the freedom provided by that medium of expression – much less corseted than the traditional fine arts – and capture the essence of her subjects with great emotion and intense colors.[+]
