In Empty Spain

Much as it is the locus of our best literature, Spain’s countryside was a matter of concern only for those living there, practically until Sergio del Molino gave a name to its depopulation. Now that the emptying of towns is an issue of importance on a state level, it is still those close to rural environments who are active in ensuring that the wrongly understood idea of progress responsible for vacating that world does not become the remedy to reinhabit it. Óscar Miguel Ares (Valladolid, 1972) harnesses the profits yielded by wind farms in small localities to strengthen their facilities, through buildings that create community ties and remind folk that days are longer and brighter in villages.
