02/06/2022

In the context of the PHotoEspaña 2022 festival, the Museo ICO in Madrid is hosting 'Against All That Glitters: Effects of Time,' an exhibition devoted to the photographer Juan Baraja (Toledo, 1984), on view until 11 September. Curated by Alfredo Puente, it presents a selection of shots from eight photography series taken between 2014 and 2022 in different places in Europe, including some of his architectural explorations: ‘Norlandia,’ an immortalization of Ólafsfjörður, a town in Iceland of only 800 people; ‘Experimento Banana,’ a look at an agricultural exploitation, abandoned in 1959, that was part of the Icelandic National Gardening School; ‘Cerezales,’ a documentation of the construction of Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia (FCAYC), a work of AZPML; ‘Águas Livres,’ a 1956 building in Lisbon by Nuno Teotónio and Bartolomeu Costa, and ‘Parnaso,’ a 1952 building in Porto by José Carlos Loureiro; ‘Hipódromo,’ a tour of the Zarzuela Racetrack in Madrid (1931) by Carlos Arniches, Martín Domínguez, and Eduardo Torroja; ‘Utopie Abitative’, a research project about three Italian neighborhoods (Corviale in Rome, Vele di Scampia in Naples, and Rozzol Melara in Trieste); and ‘Y vasca / Euskal Y’, commissioned by Museo ICO, on the railway infrastructure named Y vasca, which is currently under construction, for completion in 2028.
