Turning necessity into a virtue seems to be the motto of Arno Hans Brandlhuber (1964) and Georg Kniess (1961) in confronting the obstinate reticence of German investors toward anything proposed by architects without extensive experience. The inflexibility of these clients with respect to cost control and deadlines, which all too often prevents projects from being carried out, has made this Cologne studio split each job into what it calls the ‘.com’ and ‘.org’ versions; that is, a development of the project that addresses its constructive definition in detail, and another that transforms it into an experimental object, a conceptual exercise that keeps evolving even if actual execution of the building is stopped...
