AV Proyectos 110: Vector Architects
AV Proyectos 110 gathers the most recent projects of Vector Architects, the Beijing-based studio led by Gong Dong, showing the broad formal range of their work, their attention to natural or historic environments, and a work method that relies on hand-drawn sketches as main tool for thought. Next, two projects by Francis Kéré – 2022 Pritzker Prize laureate – for the national assemblies of Burkina Faso and Benin, which show his talent at reinterpreting limited resources and interest in involving the local population. The issue also includes five examples of churches designed with modern spatial configuration strategies, and which blur the frontier between the earthly and the divine. The construction section focuses on one of the stadiums for the World Cup Qatar 2022, a venue designed by the Spanish studio Fenwick Iribarren reusing 974 shipping containers so that it can be disassembled when the event is over. Furthermore, the exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art offers an opportunity to gather some of the most iconic collages and drawings by Peter Cook. Lastly, the book Ghost Signs proposes a visual journey through the streets of London to document the remains of old advertisements painted on building walls, and the work of the photographer Jorge Fuembuena reflects on how the tourism and leisure industries have transformed the picturesque Nordic landscapes.
