Inspired by memories from his childhood, Todd Hido has devoted over twenty years to capturing the feeling of isolation that comes at night in the archetypal suburban neighbor-hoods of America. With no illumination what-soever aside from the diffuse light from the interior spaces of the homes, by using long exposure photography technique he turns these gloomy images into snapshots or film sequences where what lies behind the walls becomes secondary, opening up an endless range of stories that can happen. In 2001 he collected these settings in a monographic publication titled House Hunting, completed a year later with the series Outskirts.
The work of Todd Hido will be on display within the exhibition ‘Looking Forward’ at Pier 24 Photography in San Francisco, opening on 4 July and on view throughout 2022... [+]
