Barbarism or Communism After the Virus?
We keep hearing that we are living one of those dystopian situations Hollywood has accustomed us to. But what movies, exactly, are we experiencing firsthand? When several American friends of mine sent messages about firearms stores running out of stock even faster than drugstores, I tried to imagine the buyers’ motives. Maybe they picture themselves as a group of people keeping safe and sound in homes well locked and loaded, protected from a hungry multitude, as in zombie movies… (We can also envision a less chaotic version: elites surviving in their restricted areas, as in Roland Emmerich’s film 2012, where a few thousand chosen take refuge for an admission price of a few billion dollars per head.)...
