The self-taught photographer Francisco Gómez (1918-1988) witnessed the intensive renewal process that took place in the field during the second half of the 20th century in Spain, and is a key figure in Spanish architectural photography of that time. At 38 he entered the Real Sociedad Fotográfica of Madrid and later joined the AFAL group. Together with Gabriel Cualladó, Gerardo Vielba, and Ramón Masats he set up the group La Palangana, predecessor of the so-called Escuela de Madrid.
