The Polar Silk Road
24/12/2021
On view through 24 April 2022 at the Lumen Museum in Bruneck is an exhibition of photographs by Gregor Sailer. Temperatures as low as -55ºC, military exclusion zones, and the unpredictability of the Arctic made this project – carried out with an analogue view camera over a four-year period (2017-2021) – an enormous challenge. 'The Polar Silk Road' explores the economic exploitation of Arctic regions and the territorial claims of neighboring states. The Austrian photographer highlights the consequences: geopolitical tensions, expanded military structures, and exposed research stations.
