Cruz & Ortiz, Knighted

A Pica of Flanders

31/05/2014

In the olden days, knighthood implied a military rank; now it is bestowed in recognition of moral and professional merits. So, far from being anecdotic, the appointment of Antonio Cruz & Antonio Ortiz as Knights of the Royal Order of the Netherlands Lion is significant; more so considering that the homage to the two Spanish architects’ “extraordinary contribution to Dutch society” is really a tribute to the civic power of architecture itself, represented here by the “excellent renovation of the Rijksmuseum.” The prestigious award was given to the Sevillian partners by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, at a ceremony held on 22 April at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
