AV Proyectos 112 compiles the most recent projects of MAIO, the Barcelona-based practice led by Maria Charneco, Alfredo Lérida, Guillermo López, and Anna Puigjaner, who work on a broad field that goes from research on the domestic scale to large sports infrastructures. Next, the winning proposal by the Italian-Spanish team – FRPO, Walk, SD Partners –, along with those of Froimovich + Grau and FORM_A, placed second and third, for the Magniffica Fabbrica competition in Milan, which called for a new complex for the Teatro alla Scala. The issue also includes five examples of shops in Spain, designed with lively combinations of colors, geometries or materials that direct the attention towards the items on display. The construction section is dedicated to the new Acciona Campus on Ombú Street in Madrid, where Foster + Partners refurbish a Neo-Mudejar building that preserves its original shell and add a stepped wooden structure to organize the interior space flexibly. The following section offers a glimpse at the work of Warehouse of Architecture and Research, the Italian atelier that uses the collage as an instrument against clichés and the lack of personality of renderized images today. And the exhibition at the Reina Sofía Museum offers the opportunity to take stock of the career of Néstor Sanmiguel Diest, who challenges the contemporary production methods with his unique compositions. To close, the extensive oeuvre of photographer Paolo Gasparini is summed up here with a selection of images where the contrast between the first and the third worlds creates parallelisms filled with contradiction and beauty.
