Marlborough Gallery, founded in 1946 by Frank Lloyd and Harry Fischer, will shut down this month of June, after nearly 80 years. The closing will affect its original base in London and locations in New York, Barcelona, and Madrid. In Spain the gallery has represented great exponents of contemporary art like Blanca Muñoz, Juan Genovés, Luis Gordillo, and Alfonso Albacete, the artist chosen to close the Madrid venue with the exhibition ‘Personas, Lugares, Objetos, Distancias...’ – the ninth show on the work of the Andalusian painter at Marlborough, in which he expands on his process of considering the painting as a container of ideas. The basis of all scenes are time and space, both defined by the objects and people who populate them. Through different pictorial techniques, such as acrylic or oil on canvas, Albacete incorporates elements that emerge during the creative process, like the tools in his studio or mementos and photographs of his childhood years with family and friends.
