Taken in those borderline areas between urban and rural land, in the unique landscape that grows between Moscow and its suburbs, the images of ‘Pastoral’ by Alexander Gronsky, shot between 2008 and 2012, reflect the artist’s fascination with the edges of the territory. Evoking the classic theme of man’s encounter with nature, in his images people appear as miniature figures, small and insignificant details that are part of the subject portrayed. Born in Tallin in 1980 and based in Riga, Gronsky’s work has been displayed in galleries around the world, and his photographs have been published, among other media, in Der Spiegel, Le Monde or The Sunday Times.
