The two volumes of these Chronicles of the Crisis offer a selection of texts that were written over the period between 1976 and 2020. In the first pair of books, under the title Great Expectations, we put together articles of 1976-1984 (‘Sustainable Endeavors’) and 1985-1992 (‘Fractures and Fictions’), originally published in professional magazines or in daily newspapers, and reprinted only in Spanish; the next couple of tomes, Alexandrine Years, presented essays that appeared in El País in the course of the 14 years that I was in charge of a weekly architecture page, 1993-1999 (‘The Age of Spectacle’) and 2000-2006 (‘Time of Uncertainty’), all in both the original Spanish and in English; and this new twosome adds another 14 years, 2007-2013 (‘A Tremor in the System’) and 2014-2020 (‘Territories of Risk’), again bilingually but now with pieces mostly coming from AV Monographs or Arquitectura Viva, the sister magazines that Fernández-Galiano has been at the helm of since their creation in 1985.
