Models for living: The house and housing
This bunch of texts about the house and housing is structured in six sections, with a finale on the contradictory feelings they stir. The initial section literarily presents the house, stressing the anthropological fascination it holds for us and the reticence that its more sophisticated manifestations causes; the second explores the materiality of the houses and its more extreme versions, illustrating it with some signature examples; the third focuses on the difficult coexistence of the house and the compact city that ecology and the economy require; the fourth shifts emphasis from the configuration of the urban fabric to actual housing; the fifth explores some collective experiences, reminds us of the importance of ownership, and goes into the subject of the care homes that an aging population demands; the sixth and last covers as a priority the challenges of housing in Europe, a continent where this field became an essential laboratory of architectural modernity.
