Maestros del mundo 2
Many of the architects gathered here, born between 1943 and 1954, have received the Pritzker Prize, so it is hard to imagine a similar concentration of excellence. I feel privileged to have shared my journey through architecture and through the world with this assemblage of talent, a constellation still active but for the case, very sadly, of dazzling Zaha Hadid, whose early death, nevertheless, did not prevent her from making the discipline turn on its hinge. The mere mention of some of them – Zumthor, Nouvel, Souto de Moura, Perrault, Chipperfield, Lacaton & Vassal, Juma – already evokes autonomous creative universes without which it would be impossible to write the history of recent architecture, while the echo of others – Léon Krier, Daniel Libeskind – rings as much in their work as in formal currents, from postmodernism to deconstruction, which together have shaped the debate in our field as much as in artistic and academic areas.
