World masters
This group of masters – born between 1914 and 1943, most of them now gone – marked the 20th century indelibly. From Lina Bo Bardi to Mario Botta, their artistic and intellectual footprint remains fresh to this day, and it is impossible not to invoke the giant stature of the likes of Aldo van Eyck, Jørn Utzon, James Stirling, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, or Aldo Rossi, gold standards to several generations. The same can be said for those still living, such as Álvaro Siza, Glenn Murcutt, orTadao Ando. Although some names will be missed, these twenty may comprise a plausible mosaic of a period of architecture and the world.
