Modern Disagreements
Modernity has had its dissidents, many of whom adopted either a severe or a playful classicism, and the articles brought together here take stock of the flowering of a postmodernity that ranged from architectural manifestos to theme parks. After a synthesis of historic modernity, the first section offers a chronicle of the postmodern apogee in the first half of the 1980s; the second provides an assessment of that conservative decade, affiliated with antimodern classicism; the third makes an analysis of the popularization of postmodernity, in both fairgrounds and the domestic sphere; the fourth covers the development of taste in democratic Spain and the urban experiments where facsimiles were used to build friendly environments; and the fifth discusses postmodernity’s interest in classical language or color, and does a recap of the movement’s intellectual basics to wrap up remembering the classicist dimension of the modern masters.
