Imperfect Beauties: Art and Artists
As useful art, architecture has always had a close relationship with artistic creation. The texts gathered here, mostly coming from El País, venture into the world of the arts, occasionally in relation to architecture or politics. Preceded by an introductory article that links up names of artists and architects, the first section explores the contemporary carnival of art, explaining the tension between its commercial component and the sacred aura it often dons; the second focuses on images and texts that feed current debates, from the portrayal of women or the hermeticism of the avant-gardes to the bubble of digital art; the third goes through different episodes that illustrate the connection between the arts and the great challenges and fractures of our time; and the book wraps up with a brief reflection on public art, which so frequently forays into the methods and intentions of architecture.
