Practical workshop on traditional construction
In connection with the exhibition ‘Francis Kéré. Primary Elements’, opening at Madrid’s Museo ICO in October, the ETSAM (in collaboration with the CIAT, or Center for Research in Traditional Architecture) has organized a workshop, directed by professor Jesús San Vicente, to explore the traditional building methods of Burkina Faso. Since last Monday, the students have been working on the reproduction in adobe of the lattice wall the African architect used in his Atelier Gando project, and that will be rebuilt in the museum. The exhibition, curated Luis Fernández-Galiano, will cover the complete oeuvre of Kéré, articulated by three primary elements that stress its universal character: the stereotomic floor, the tectonic roof, and the textile wall.
