On view from 3 October to 20 January at the ICO Museum in Madrid, ‘Francis Kéré: Primary Elements’ expands the focus that ‘The Architect is Present’ (2014) gave to the exceptional Burkinabe based in Berlin. This year’s show covers his entire career so far. The catalog, edited by Arquitectura Viva, echoes the exhibition’s tripartite structure. One section interprets his architecture in the light of Semper’s four elements. It is followed by a chronological journey through 33 works. Then comes a critical coda composed of an interview with the African architect, conducted by Eduardo Prieto, and an article by Luis Fernández-Galiano that looks at Kéré’s special ties with Spain.
