The result of an international competition held in 2011, the project drawn up by Jean Nouvel in collaboration with the Brussels office MDW Architecture – Marie Moignot and Xavier De Wil – includes the new police headquarters of Charleroi and the extension and improvement of the complex that is home to a prestigious dance company of the Belgian capital. The operation also involves refurbishing old brick constructions in the area, demolishing some of them, and creating a public square that visually connects everything through its pavement of reddish tones. Here rises the police office tower. The new urban landmark, elliptical on plan and 75 meters tall, is clad with bricks of blue hues recalling the uniforms worn by the police force. Opened recently, the police precinct has three parts: the new vertical building and two renovated old wings. Jean Nouvel MDW Architecture Filip Dujardin
