On the coast of the Yellow Sea, in the Chinese province of Jiangsu, stands the new exhibition and convention center of the port city of Luanyunggang, a work of Architekten Von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp). Winner of an international competition, the design by the German firm presents four large exhibition pavilions in an arrangement based on repeating a 9 x 12-meter grid, surrounding the central convention area. The granite facades have vertical incisions evoking a barcode, in reference to the complex’s function as a place devoted to industry and commerce.
