Solo House, Cretas

Barozzi Veiga

In the natural context of Los Puertos de Beceite, in the comarca of Matarraña (Teruel), art gallerists Christian Bourdais and Eva Albarrán promoted the Solo Houses initiative: a collection of architecture projects that invites visitors to embark on an immersive journey through buildings designed specifically for the place. On a south-facing slope surrounded by pine forests, the Solo House reveals a new artificial microcosm composed through the arrangement of four abstract volumes on a connecting plinth that creates an elevated platform over the slope of the plot. Each one of the four pavilions accommodates a different program, enabling a new style of inhabitation. The first one, reached from the access path through a pine forest, is the entrance pavilion with its pond, a cool and shady threshold for the house. From this point, the remaining volumes appear like cut-outs against the landscape and the horizon. The swimming pool, located to the south of the site, works with water as an architectural element. The dining pavilion, to the west, is a covered space with a fountain and a fireplace. To the east is an enclosed volume, a large space designed for daily living.
