Two teams win Bauhaus Museum competition

The Barcelona office González Hinz Zabala and the New York firm Young & Ayata have jointly won first place in the competition for the Bauhaus Museum in Dessau. The center for the preservation and display of products created by the German art and design school will have a total floor area of 3,500 square meters, with 2,100 for exhibition galleries.

The proposal of Roberto González, Anne Katharina Hinz, and José Zabala – in collaboration with the landscaping specialist Roser Vives de Delás – presents a rectangular volume, wrapped with an external structural frame, where the opacity of the upper part strikes a contrast with the transparency below. The project by Michael Young and Kutan Ayata – with the landscaping design of Misako Murata – takes on sinuous forms of various colors that are lifted here and there to create walkways in between.

The procedure for arriving at the final design has yet to be decided.
