Condominiums at 152 Elizabeth Street in Nueva York

Tadao Ando

The Japanese architect Tadao Ando’s first work in New York City is an ultra-luxury condominium building at 152 Elizabeth Street. Construction has begun on this corner lot of Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood which was acquired by the local developers Sumaida + Khurama. With a total area of 3,000 square meters, the prismatic volume will accommodate a single residential unit on each of its seven floors. The structure of galvanized steel presents glazed facades combined with panels of exposed concrete, while the south side is covered with a vertical garden. The entrance foyer features a wall with a cascade reflecting natural light. The interior design firm Gabellini Sheppard Associates has made a careful selection of luxurious materials, such as the wood for the floors, extracted from 250-year-old trees.
